I am fascinated by language and ideas in a way that is completely divorced from anything concrete and practical. I came to law school because, as an English and Philosophy major, I felt guilty removing myself from the real world. Because I think privilege creates obligation, and because I want to put my mind to a better use than self-indulgent mental gymnastics, I hope law school provides intellectual challenges that are of actual value to other people.

Alison,

I have always felt the same way about privilege and obligation. I would love to discuss that with you. However, the reason for my post comes from your assault on the ego in your topic Bullshit and Egomania. I see that you were an English and Philosophy major. Did you ever read any Iris Murdoch? I believe you would find her intriguing.
