Three courses I took in college had a profound impact on my worldview: these were The Civil Rights Movement and the Black Power Era, The Frankfurt School of Critical Theory and U.S. Legal History. Only the latter had an unequivocally positive take on the U.S. Court system’s role in civil rights. Despite some ambivalence, I chose to attend law school because I still feel that without proponents of civil rights and other progressive causes from within government and law, it would be near impossible to effect change. I was also hoping for exposure to new ideas and ways of thinking.
