Personal Introduction

In one respect, how people see me and how I see myself couldn’t diverge more wildly. When people learn of the things I’ve done since college – running a marathon, moving to Brussels without knowing anyone, spending a year working on farms in South America – the reaction I get is one of marvel: “You’re so brave,” they say. But I’ve only done those things because I know my true nature: A deeply cautious individual who spent his childhood afraid to take risks. As I determine my post-law school path, I find myself constantly fighting those cautious urges once again.

I came to Columbia in August after spending a year working on farms and doing volunteer work in South America. Through WWOOF, an organization that allows you to volunteer at different organic farms across the world, I traveled and worked in Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Chile, also spending about a month building houses in Pisco, Peru. Prior to that, I worked in Brussels for six months for an economics think tank and worked in Washington for four months doing research for someone who writing a book. I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2009.
