It is strongly recommended that you include your outline in the body of your essay by using the outline as section titles. The headings below are there to remind you how section and subsection titles are formatted.

The Art of Performance

Line: 21 to 21
Even the recruiting process feels like an exercise in performance of conforming to society's vision of a successful lawyer. There are certain questions you should ask and some you must avoid. There are specific people you must connect with. You send polished follow-up emails, expressing how lovely it was to meet and how much you'd love to continue the conversation. The entire process, much like the traditions I was raised in, reinforces the idea that success is tied to mastering and executing a carefully curated image.

Now, I hope to take advantage of this class and practice taking control of the crayons.

This draft does a fine job in showing the nature of the problem we are confronting: Are we free enough to educate ourselves according to our judgment about what will best help us become ourselves, or are we only free to train to play a role for us defined by others? If the latter, what sense can we make of the idea that we are becoming lawyers in a free society, or that we are indeed acting in favorem libertatis in any sense? Are some of us free in this sense, but not others, based on our place of origin within the society? Does law school undermine or reinforce those differences in degrees of freedom?

This draft;s implicit answers are not the ones I think we want, nor the ones I believe we have to live with. But if students of even your energy and talent think they must hold by them, what chance have we to reclaim the broader freedom we deserve?
