 I don't intend to venture into backstabber elegy land, so it would be wise to stop representing myself and think about lawyering in relation to others. Who do I want to represent and why?

Because I knew quite well the boys who founded the Federalist Society, I find it inconceivable that 40 years later someone politically unsympathetic would be joining their group for its supposed academic or professional advantages, but it's another example of the older you get the less you know.

Here's the lesson: Trust your judgment. Educate it. Read into it. Refine it. But don't stop trusting it, and don't betray yourself because you think other smart people are doing so.

 
You are entitled to restrict access to your paper if you want to. But we all derive immense benefit from reading one another's work, and I hope you won't feel the need unless the subject matter is personal and its disclosure would be harmful or undesirable.
