< < | So I'm here for three reasons. The first is to better understand injustice: why it exists, who's affected by it, maybe even how to one fight it. The second is to figure out what specific injustice it is that I most want to fight. Right now, I'm most interested in criminal defense, and I hope a summer at a Federal Defender's office will help solidify that. I also hope to learn more about union-side labor law (Stand with GWC-UAW) and the interaction between law and feminism, and I think courses with scholars in those fields will help steer my interest in those areas. | > > | So I'm here for three reasons. It's to figure out—on a personal level—how to maintain distance from apathy. And the solution is to find engaged and engaging mentors who can inspire me to act and guide me in action. How exactly one does that was an issue much discussed in the last two class meetings. I know I'll have to force myself to speak to and, of course, listen to professors. The listening part is not a problem. But the talking, a common enough student activity, I have always shirked to my detriment. | | Apathy is easy, and the chute toward it is well enough greased for us all to slide down. Most of the people I've known in life have already hit the bottom. Mr. Harney's down there. But it’s time I tell him my name's not Kevin.

A very good draft. The right tone, not too much cleverness, just a few words out of place.
I'm not sure you need to convince the reader that the law school is apathy. It might be sufficient to point out the ways in which it gives apathy too easy a ride. Just as I'm not sure that you have to apologize quite so much for privilege. You want to emphasize the easy-going part, of course, but it is you out there with that sign. (I wonder if you could feel John Lennon out there with you, or remember that it was his sign too, that he made those words and wrote them on the sky before someone killed him for no good reason. If you could feel and remember that, it might help you with both the injustice part, like Olive, and the apathy problem. You and he made some good music together.)
Don't change much; this doesn't need much. But I would rethink the conclusion. It's clever, but you don't need to go back to 8th grade. And wherever Mr Harney is, you're way past there now.
