Personal Introduction

-- By RasheedAhmed - 29 Jan 2015

I came to law school to develop a creative and innovative way of interpreting the law. My experiences in my life have given me an appreciation for the law that I believe is unique. I was born in a country that was deemed “lawless”. I saw the effects it can have on an entire generation. What drove me to law school is the goal to understand how and why the system of law’s in United States functions successfully. In turn, I hope to apply what I have learned in law school to my native country, Somalia.

But law is not a device, independent of context, that can be moved from here to there. The process of making things happen in society using words happens in society.

Lawlessness is not absence of "the law." Usually it is the presence of much law and little governance. Making things happen in society using words can be impossible, so that regardless of whether there is much or little law, there is no lawyering, only serving power.
