I want to be a lawyer because I think very highly of the adversarial system as a means of getting at the truth and achieving justice--of course no system is perfect, but our mechanism is a good one. I look forward to participating in this process, (ideally) mastering it, and doing advocacy by litigation for a living. I have to find gainful employment somewhere, and I think trial lawyering will be an enjoyable, meaningful, and rewarding career.

I am aware of the potential conflict between my high-minded statement about achieving truth and justice and my self-serving goal of becoming good at winning litigation. I am not troubled by this.
